Vetoquinol Zylkene Calming Capsules for Dogs & Cats

Zylkene is a once-daily capsule that helps dogs and cats stay calm and settled during the situations that unsettle them most: Halloween trick-or-treaters, fireworks and thunderstorms, travel, boarding, visitors, a move, the vet, or a change in routine. Its single active ingredient is alpha-casozepine, a peptide derived from hydrolyzed bovine milk protein.

Zylkene supports balanced behavior without sedation, so your pet stays alert, engaged and fully themselves, just less on edge. It is lactose-free, free of preservatives, and made by Vetoquinol, a veterinary animal health company founded in 1933 and holding the NASC Quality Seal.

Capsules can be given whole or opened and sprinkled over food, which makes daily dosing simple even for cats and pill-averse dogs. Zylkene works best given daily over a stretch of days rather than as a single dose before an event, so start it about a week ahead and give it time to work.

Choosing a Size:

• 14 ct Blister Pack: a two-week course for one stressful event. Start one capsule a day about a week ahead, and keep going through the event and a few days after. Also a good trial size before committing to the bottle.
• 30 ct Bottle: for ongoing situational stress given daily over several weeks, or for pets that need two capsules a day (a 14 ct pack is only one week at that dose).

Choosing a Strength & Daily Dose:

• 75 mg: cats and dogs up to 10 lb, 1 capsule daily; 11 to 22 lb, 2 capsules daily
• 225 mg: dogs 23 to 32 lb, 1 capsule daily; dogs 33 to 65 lb, 2 capsules daily; cats over 22 lb, 1 capsule daily
• 450 mg: dogs 33 to 65 lb, 1 capsule daily; dogs 66 to 132 lb, 2 capsules daily

Note: dogs in the 33 to 65 lb range can be dosed with either two 225 mg capsules or one 450 mg capsule. The 450 mg is usually the simpler and more economical choice at that weight.

Directions for Use:

• Give once daily, whole or opened over food, or as directed by your veterinarian.
• Start 5 to 7 days ahead of a known event where possible. In a pinch, 1 to 2 days ahead is better than the day of.
• Continue through the event and for a few days after.
• For ongoing situational stress, give daily over several weeks.
• Talk with your veterinarian before starting Zylkene if your pet is taking any medication. A very anxious pet already in fight or flight can blow through a supplement and may need a prescription plan; supplements work best alongside a plan from the vet who knows your pet.
